In fact, there’s entire websites and even an app dedicated to navigating the rave mecca’s notorious lines and mysterious door policy. With an hours-long wait for entry, getting through the door to the techno-fuelled delights beyond is no simple task. There’s no guest list, reservations or seemingly any preferential treatment whatsoever. If this level of violence can happen on the outside where photography is permitted (and, on the back of that, a level of accountability) I dread to think what might happen inside where such things are strictly prohibited. The statement is one of the most frequently asked questions of would-be Berliners and travelers alike. Justifiably too, getting into one of the world’s most famous and arguably decadent clubs is no small feat, and the countless mysteries and legends about the notorious club only further the sentiment. For those not embedded in the Berlin techno scene, it’s an uphill struggle. I certainly will not be returning and would advise all of you thinking of attending to consider an alternative. It is incredibly disappointing to see such hostility given the apparent progressive and inclusive nature of this club. Had I been facing the guy, or hit the floor in a different way, things could have been much, much worse. Thankfully I wasn't seriously hurt, but this is more luck than anything else. As we walked away I took a photograph of our disappointment (one for the memory bank) and was physically assaulted!! This bouncer (photographed) walked over without saying a word and punched me to the ground. Quite glad in retrospect as the bouncer on the door was incredibly hostile. Arbitrary and opaque admission process (we saw only a handful of people get in!). Queued for a couple of hours on a Saturday night. Turn up at a non peak time to increase your chances anfmd if you do get in you're in for the ride of your life! Remember there's no way all the people.who queue in those nights could fit in. Note that all transactions are cash and they only sell snacks for food - there's a hot food van outside and a lot of people bring their own which is what I did.ĭon't approach it as just another Friday/Saturday night outing. BTW despite accusations of racism on TripAdvisor I saw plenty of non Anglo people in there. It's well organised and feels safe and staff and crowd inside were wonderful. Several bars of various types as well, including the famous ice cream bar.

Plenty of places to.chill out, plus the notorious dark rooms if you want to make out - I didn't. There's also the smaller Panorama bar which plays house, is more light and has a bar in it if you want something less intense for a while. It's hot and dark and loud, with some of the most hard core industrial techno I've ever heard. The real action, the heart of Berghein, is the main hall which is like a small cathedral with its size and high ceiling. I thought I'd stay for a few hours, I stayed for fourteen! It's an incredible place, almost more like than an indoor resort rather than just a club - I can see why people spend entire weekends there. There are no upmarket tables or bars or expensive bottles of champagne. Not to sit around with friends telling each other how cool you are. Note that in Berghein you're there to dance. Once I'd persuaded them that I was serious they let me in. Having read horror stories about evening queues I turned up at 10 am Sunday and had to wait, seriously, only five minutes to get to the front!Īs a 66 year old (I've been into German electronic music since the 70s) I wasn't exactly their core demographic nor am I gay, but I dressed for the occasion (black), I was by myself and I speak a bit of German. I love everything about it!! I just really love beiing there and can stay there for hours, having the time of my life and can't wait to go back as soon it's possible again (Covid) <3 <3 I love the people there (my kind of people, not judgemental in any way), Love the atmosphere, even love the cappuccino there. Because I'm not into Techno, obviously I'm not gonna stand in the line waiting for hours and I also only go after (or sometimes before) the party's with my genre music. Now it's my 2nd favourite club (cause I'm still not a big Techno-fan :p).Įvery time again I had the time of my life. Everytime without any problem getting in! I went back the day after and by now, I've been there several times. I got in without any problem and had a very nice time.

But I saw Sven and another bouncer where standing outside, so I tought: I'll just gonna try (I don't even like Techno).

I went to a Slowmotion- party in the Kantine (garden Berghain) and when the party was over I walked towards Berghain to go to the street and take a cab to the hotel. My first time, think it was in 2019 (maybe 2018) I tought it would be difficult to get in because off all the stories you read on the internet.
